STEM in Motion
Overview
Project SYNCERE’s STEM in Motion, A Mobile Tinker Lab engages K-8 students from traditionally inequitable communities with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) by making learning fun. Using life-sized tinker sets, LEGO kits, robotics, electronics, and ramps, participants can design, build, and create structures, vehicles, robots, and more using their own imagination. Our collaboration with Tufts University Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) and a grant from the LEGO Foundation, empowered us to showcase how fun STEM can be in over 63 communities as far north as and as far south as and reach 3,102 people.
In the United States, more than 3,000 students attended PEBL workshops, camps, or classes and over 300 teachers were trained to bring PEBL into their classrooms. (Source: Sites.tufts.edu/PEBL (2023)
In the first year of the LEGO Foundation grant, Tufts Center for Engineering and Outreach supported eight outreach organizations, including Project SYNCERE, to bring playful engineering-based learning to almost 6,000 students around the globe. (Source: Sites.tufts.edu/PEBL (2023)
